Grounded in Purpose: The Rise of Jordan Isaiah
From the first time I heard Jordan Isaiah’s music, I could feel the conviction behind it. There’s something grounding about the way he delivers truth — from the confidence in “Right Hand to God” to the energy that moves through “The Garden State Groove.” His work feels like faith in motion, a reminder of what happens when you lean into purpose and bet on yourself. In this InnerView, Jordan opens up about his journey, the lessons he’s learned while pursuing music full-time, and the power of believing even when it’s not easy.
MM: What made you decide to go full-time in music?
J: Music is something that I’ve loved my entire life, and it’s been my biggest dream to go full-time in music. My supporters keep me going as well. There’s no better feeling than hearing them express how much they love my music.
MM: Do you remember music having an impact on you as a child?
J: For sure, my dad used to play music for me while I was still in the womb. He told me he would put headphones around my moms stomach to let me listen. But all through my childhood I loved a bunch of different genres of music. From Guns N’ Roses to Kiss, J. Cole, Run DMC, 2pac, Biggie— I’ve listened to it all.
MM: The Garden State Groove is clearly a vibe—you’ve gone viral with it. What do you think struck a chord with people about this track?
J: I think it’s that old school / east coast flavor. Although that sample is from the West Coast, my flow was heavily influenced by Naughty by Nature. I really want rap to feel good again and I think this song was the perfect expression of how I think rap used to make people feel.
MM: The title nods to New Jersey—how does the Garden State inspire your music, sound, or creative identity?
J: It’s everything to me. New Jersey has such a rich hip-hop culture and it has heavily influenced me. Coming from a place with so much hip-hop history made me appreciate the origins of hip-hop and allowed me to craft my own unique style.
MM: Your track Right Hand to God is all about self-belief—what keeps you grounded in your purpose?
J: I’m a very introspective person and I understand the importance of having confidence especially when moving through this game. I have a deep love for myself and the person that I have come to be and it reflects in my music.
MM: For listeners who haven't heard of you before, what track would you want them to listen to first and why?
J: I have a song called ‘Beauty Is In The Eye of the Beholder’, in this song I speak about the importance of enjoying the journey to wherever it is you are trying to make it to while also reminiscing on my past accomplishments that I may have looked over. This song is a great example of how I think and how I express things through music.
MM: What do you hope listeners feel or take away when they hear your music?
J: I hope that my music gives people confidence. There is a level of relatability in my music that I hope makes people feel invincible. I call my brand ‘Luv 2 Listen’ and my little tagline is “Luv what you listen to” because I think music is so much more than just sound. Music has changed my life and made me a more confident and loving person, and I want everyone who listens to my music to come away with that same feeling.
MM: Looking ahead, what’s a dream project or collaboration you hope to pursue that would stretch your creativity?
J: I love the idea of a New Jersey album. Featuring all NJ artists and producers and just honing in on that east coast sound.
MM: What’s one lesson you’ve learned in pursuing music full-time that you’d want every creative to carry with them?
J: Bet on yourself. That’s all this comes down to at the end of the day. It can be scary but really sit and ask yourself if you’re ready to accept everything that’s gonna come with the life your trying to pursue.
